A month or so ago me and Opeie were having one of our many LEGO sessions, which usually involve him coming up with something and us trying to build it together. This time though he wanted us to make a spy phone each, as he told me that he thought "there are baddies everywhere and they need to be defeated". I thought this was adorable so we began building right away. Usually when we build something together he breaks it up before we've even put the LEGO away, but this time was different.

The phones were finished and we instantly started receiving phone calls from a mysterious person known only as 'The Boss'. Each call comes with the most bizarre missions. When the Boss calls Opeie, no one knows where we will end up or what the day has in store for us. In London this week we captured an evil Owl, a villian named Tiny Joe (who can get in to buildings through the key hole), various London pigeons and an army of Taxidermy ducks. 

When the boss calls me I use the mission for exciting home schooling exercises. If we are at home one of Opeie's toys might get kidnapped and we are left with an activity sheet at the door of every room in the house. To search for his missing friend he must complete the activity to progress through the house. The phones have given us a never ending amount of entertainment.

The great things about these phones are you can get reception anywhere, we've not been conned into a rolling contract that keeps getting more expensive and there's no need for insurance, because if they break we just get more LEGO! (take note EE).

Opeie tends to have many imaginary phone conversations during the week. Usually it is Nanny Roo that gets all of the weekly gossip unbeknown to her, but yesterday it was our friend Katie who was deep in conversation while she was supposed to be at work. The conversation was hilarious and ended with a one sided in depth discussion about the time she inserted an ice-cream into our good friends bottom following a Minifigure we made of her the weekend and some photos they sent us.

Personally I think it is ridiculous to give a child a mobile phone too young but at the ripe old age of 3 I thought he was ready for the commitment. So we sat down together and discussed what it was he wanted from his new handset (it was like an immature sales pitch from a car phone warehouse representative).

What do you want it to look like?... LEGO! , colour?... Pink! (No problem). Everything is awesome!!! Okay??? Spinney things! Well I can never say he doesn't know what he wants. So I got to work while Opeie created me the handset I've been pining after for years, guess I won't be needing that upgrade now and we can keep in contact wherever we go (as long as it's in the house).

Building a custom DC Lego Aquaman iPhone casing (because how else am i going to spend my spare time?)

Both my creative side and inner geek were working overtime last night when I spotted a Lego mini figure I hadn't seem for some time. Yes a small Lego figure does tend to do that to me. The house was tidy(ish), Mrs M was busy on the phone working and the boys were tucked up in bed so I did what any 33 year old would do in the same situation, I got the Lego out.

The mini figure I had spotted was Aquaman, he had been hiding in the Lego Batman Tumbler that me and Seth had built a while back. He's not one of my favourite super heroes but I have always loved the colours on his costume so I decided to revamp my phone after the Yellow Lego protective phone case I built a few weeks back. Crazy really that I would even go to this trouble over a phone I'm the one in the house that uses it least. I had time to kill though, what else was I going to do?

I'm no Tony Stark but we'll call this phone armour 'Mach III' as I'm in a nerdy mood. I didn't end up using Mach II (The Cat in the Hat case) as it was a bit much. I used the shape from the last build and did half orange and half green but it didn't look right so I added in a yellow belt, changing the phone wallpaper made it look more Aquaman esq but it still didn't look right, I really wanted to include the mini figure so I hollowed out the back to make a little home for him. Not meaning to toot my own horn but it came out far better than I had envisioned it so I was really pleased. I really should knock the phone covers on the head though and get Back to building bigger and better things, it is a head turner though when I'm out and about using it.
